Coach's Code of Conduct
As a coach in the Eastside Tigers Youth Hockey program, I pledge to follow this code of conduct:
- I am responsible for my conduct at all times. I will always be a positive representative of Eastside Tigers.
- I will place the emotional and physical well being of my players ahead of my personal desire to win. I will remember that the game is for the children, not the adults.
- I will be alert to the physical safety of players. I will do my best to provide a safe playing/ practice situation for my players and ensure they wear the required safety equipment.
- I will lead by example and will treat all teammates, coaches, officials, opponents, spectators, and parents with respect.
- I will motivate my players in a positive way. I will be generous with my praise when it is deserved. I will be consistent, honest, and fair. I will not criticize players publicly; I will always strive to become a more effective communicator and coach.
- I will maintain an open line of communication with players and parents. I will explain my goals and objectives for the team, as well as the rules of the game and the policies of the league, to the best of my ability.
- I will seek assistance of the parents of my players in running activities of my team.
- I will be knowledgeable in the rules of the game, and I will teach these rules to my players.
- I will treat each player as an individual, recognizing that athletes differ in learning and readiness to learn. I will adjust to the personal needs and problems of players. I will give all players the opportunity to improve their skills, gain confidence and develop self-esteem.
- I will organize practices that are fun and challenging for all my players. I will use coaching techniques appropriate for all of the skills that I teach.
- I will teach more than just hockey skills. I will be concerned with the overall development of my players, and will stress good health habits.
- I recognize that hockey is a team sport. I will encourage all players to be team players.
- I will respect the game officials and their authority during every game. I will establish a positive relationship with officials.
- I will not excessively argue any decisions made by them, or confront any referee or league official.
- I will be modest in victory and gracious in defeat.
- I will attend all CHHL meetings as directed, and will keep the Director of Hockey informed of all team activities.
- I will remember that my team is part of a program, and will keep in mind the needs of the entire program.
- I will adhere to USA Hockey governing rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- I will not swear or use rude language, gestures, or actions, or exhibit behavior detrimental to the game or Eastside Tigers.
- I will require athletes under my influence to treat all players, coaches, officials, parents, and spectators with respect.
- I will make sure my players understand and follow the Eastside Tigers Player's Code of Conduct.
